3 Miles A Day for 30 Days – Day 6
November 13, 2020. Yes, Friday the 13th!
My pre-run meal consisted of, well … nothing! I ate a light breakfast this morning with a cup of coffee around 9 am, but that was it, save for about 8 ounces of water. I hit the road around 2 pm, but I wasn’t really hungry so I went with it.
My “light breakfast” consisted of a couple of waffles and coffee. I tried a new product for the waffles today. Instead of my normal Bisquick waffle batter, I used Carbquik. It has 90% fewer carbs than Bisquick. I made my waffles the same way I always do; an egg, some skim milk, a little oil, and a splash of vanilla extract. I have to say I’m a convert!
So, a couple of the aforementioned waffles topped with sugar-free maple syrup…BAM. Now that’s good eatin’!
As far as the pre-run snack or meal go, I will just see how I feel on any given day. 3 miles is not that far and I don’t want to get locked into a eating routine if it is not necessary.
Yesterday, I had a really good run. It was the best day so far. There were no suggested changes for today’s run.
The weather today was overcast, but no rain. The temperature was noticeably cooler, 54F during the run.
Completed my pre-run checklist; light stretching, a power check for the phone and air pods, grabbed my handheld phone carrier. I did make a last minute switch from a short sleeve shirt to a light parka. Run time.

3 Miles A Day for 30 Days – Day 6 – Notes:
No change in my run circuit.
My body felt good from start to finish.
I gave no considerations to my diet today. Yesterday, I might have eaten too much pre-run, but I didn’t want to be hungry. It is a bit of a balancing act.
To begin the run, I was experienced some technical difficulties, between listening to my podcast and getting the Map My Run app to work. Nothing was happening when I hit the “Start Workout” button, but then it flashed and I was already at 17 seconds. Most of the time I would reset it. I just went with it today.
I put my shoes on the shoe dryer overnight, however, they have a squeak to them at the moment. Hopefully, it goes away.
While I wrote yesterday about possibly pushing the pace today, I actually did something a little different. Instead of just trying to run faster, I purposely shortened my stride and increased my leg turnover. I wish had a heart monitor to see if I was actually working harder.
The changes in stride and leg turnover was not more strenuous, it just required focus to not return to my normal running style.
And just as I thought, the 30-minute barrier has easily been broken! The only bio-mechanical change, I was able to shave 2 minutes off my best time. Not bad.
No pushups today. Feeling rather lazy now.
Post-run meal – Nothing. As I am writing this log entry , it has now been 3 hours since I completed the run. I haven’t even sipped water! More focus needed on a proper post-run snack and proper hydration.
