3 Miles A Day for 30 Days – Day 7

3 Miles A Day for 30 Days – Day 7

November 14, 2020.

My pre-run meal – none. My plan was to fast all day and then eat after the run. The only thing I had prior to the run was a cup of coffee earlier in the morning and “maybe” 8 ounces of water. Not quite sure about the water.

Yesterday, I had a really good run. It was the best day so far, again. There were no suggested changes for today’s run.

The weather today was sunny and cool. The temperature was 57F at run time.

Completed my pre-run checklist; light stretching, a power check for the phone and air pods, grabbed my handheld phone carrier. It’s officially long-sleeve weather until Spring. The shorts are a mainstay, except for snow days. Let’s go.

Just an overall great day to run!

3 Miles A Day for 30 Days – Day 7 – Notes:

No change in my run course. Again, don’t be surprised if I use the same course for the full 30 days. I don’t get bored easily. I value consistency versus a change of scenery.

My body felt good from start to finish.

I gave no considerations to my diet today. I know it’s only been 7 days, but the need for pre-run food has taken a backseat at the moment.

I noticed the squeak in my shoes did indeed go away. Guess they just needed another day to dry out.

A couple of days ago I wrote about shortening my stride and increasing my leg turnover. This was again a focus item today as well. During the final mile and when fatigue started to settle in, the tendency is to go with slower leg turnover and longer strides. I forced myself not to cave in a revert to the older stride.

By continuing with the stride change today, I was able to improve on the previous day’s time, which was pretty good. I was able to shave 17 seconds off the average time per mile. Not exactly Olympic qualifying times, but steady improvement.

Although I haven’t pushed myself, I believe I may slow down tomorrow. I will make that determination at run time.

Completed 100 pushups before running. It’s too easy to talk myself out of doing them once I’ve finished running and somewhat exhausted.

Post-run meal – Chili, rice, potato chips, and ice cream. Guess I was hungry after all.
