Easy Early Saturday Morning Run [Day 21]

Saturday morning run on the weekend
Chilly Saturday morning run on an amazing day.

Saturday morning run – Day 21
November 28, 2020.
Nice day, slightly chilly, no wind.
My pre-run meal – Empty stomach run.

Why I like running on Saturday mornings

The sunlight is at it’s best

I love running in the morning. However during the week is it difficult.

There’s something about starting off my day with a run which makes it such a positive experience.

At this time of the year, the sunlight is at it’s best in the morning as opposed to dealing with a setting sun in the afternoon.

That is why I like to take advantage of my weekends to include a Saturday run and Sunday, too.

My schedule is wide open and can extend my run

Running on weekend mornings is great for another reason. Time is not a factor.

If I want to extend my run, I don’t have to worry about being late for work or deal with darkness.

There is no traffic on the streets

Early morning weekend runs have the added benefit of limited traffic.

Since I now leave outside of the town limits, this is not much on an issue now. If you live in a city, you know what I am talking about.

Getting the run out of the way early

Get the run finished and out of the way so you can enjoy your free time for the rest of the day.

Kick start your day to do the things you actually want to do

The energy you get when you run in the morning before work can give you extra power to do things you actually want to get done for the rest of the day.

Running Gear Checklist

It is partly cloudy this morning with the wind at a moderate 2 mph at run time.
My pre-run checklist:

  • Empty stomach fitness run. For my early morning run, I will wait to eat after my workout.
  • Warm-up stretches include some squats, high kicks (front and back), lunges, and pulling knees to the chest
  • Power check for my phone and AirPods
  • What to wear running always includes a new long sleeve tech shirt.
  • Choose to wear my running jacket this morning.
  • Thinking more about dressing to run in the cold for next week as the forecast looks to get colder, but did not a hat this morning.
  • Put on my reflective vest
  • Grabbed my handheld phone carrier

On the Run – Before and After

Really like getting my Saturday morning run earlier in the day during my days off.

The thought of getting new shoes is on my mind each day now. Much address soon. I am not looking for the best running shoes right now, just a pair with more shock absorption.

Also thinking about purchasing lightweight running gloves like these. I have running mittens, but they are too warm for the current weather.

November Running Challenge Streak – Alive and Kicking

Everything is going well with the running challenge. Stayed up a bit late last night, which is why I did not try to tackle a longer run. Maybe try to do a long run tomorrow, but no guarantees.

For my next run challenges, I am beginning to think about a 5 mile challenge.

Post-run snack – (4) egg whites and (2) slices of bacon, cooked together. 2 donuts.
