Long Run Saturday [Day 28]

long run on Saturday
Long run Saturday. The skies parted to allow me to run.

December 5, 2020.

6-miler! It had been raining non-stop for the past 12 hours leading into this morning. And when I say raining, I mean it was coming down sideways.

I checked the forecast last night and it showed a break in the weather right around 11am.

Like clockwork, the clouds parted and the sun was upon me.

Weather at run time – 48 F, slight drizzle, and 20 mph winds.

Running Gear Checklist

My pre-run routine:

  • Nutrition – Toasted blueberry bagel with peanut butter and jelly and a cup of coffee, 3 hours prior to the run. Right before I left, I ate a sleeve of trail mix and a half of banana.
  • Warm-up stretches include some squats, high kicks (front and back), lunges, and pulling knees to the chest
  • Power check for my phone and AirPods
  • Wore my long sleeve tech shirt, and a retro Nike Fit jacket
  • No cap or hat
  • My reflective vest.
  • Grabbed my handheld phone carrier
  • Oh, and let’s not forget my Oakley sunglasses… just love these!

On the Run – Before and After

It was a good day to run. The rain stopped as forecasted just before noon. Thankful.

I had a bagel for breakfast since I knew I was running sooner or later. However, since I had to wait 3 hours for the rain to stop I was hungry before heading out the door.

I downed a small bag of trail mix, a half of banana, and 8 ounces of water.

The initial plan was to run 6 miles, but once I was on the road I seriously considered going for 8.

However, as I was approaching my 3 miles turn around point I changed my mind. Even though I felt good, I didn’t know what to expect with the strong winds.

It was actually a good call to go with the 6 miles.

I headed out in a headwind and planned for a tailwind home. That is how it played out, but I was very hot on the return run back. With no breeze on my face, I was sweaty profusely.

Tips for running in the wind should always take this into consideration!

On a more positive note, I managed to shave 4 minutes off my previous 6 mile run on the same course.

2 days remaining!

Wow. Only 2 days remaining.

Today’s long run was very good. No problem with my hip today.

Planning on a light run for tomorrow. Just looking to get my 3 miles in and call it a day.

Another one in the books.
